We are dedicated to preserving the military heritage of the United States Armed Forces and those who served on the home front! Exhibits depict the history of military service abroad and at home both during war and between wars.

In 1989, The National Military Heritage Society and Museum was incorporated as a 501 (c)(3), not-for-profit corporation, for the purpose of preserving the military heritage of the United States of America. We feature exhibits of all branches of the military - -Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Air Force - -as well as those who served on the home front. We are governed by a twelve-member Board of Directors. Our mission is to preserve, educate, enhance, and promote the history and heritage of our Armed Forces and the sacrifices made by all patriotic Americans.

We are located in historic downtown St. Joseph, Missouri, at 7th Street and Messanie. This building was designed by internationally recognized architect Harvey Ellis in 1890 and served as the first police station in St. Joseph. This beautiful building is showing signs of its age but is in remarkably good condition. It is a three-story building that still has the original slate roof. After WW II, it served as the home of the 1st later renamed 4th 105mm Howitzer Battalion as a United States Marine Corps Reserve Training Center. The third floor originally was a gym but during the Marine tenure was used as a small-bore rifle range. We are in the process of listing the building with the National Registry of Historic Places.

We owe a huge debt of gratitude to Lt. Colonel Frank Flesher USA (retired).  Ranger and airborne qualified, he gave 28 years of service to the United States Army and 17 plus years of selfless dedication to the National Military Heritage Museum and Society.
